The Director of Maintenance will support Gem Air flight operations by planning, tracking, organizing, and overseeing execution of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on Gem Air aircraft to ensure safety and regulatory compliance in a part 135 environment, ensuring the safety, reliability, and efficiency of equipment and facilities.
Manage a small team of employees (~3-4 mechanics + parts person and apprentices) to maintain a fleet of 11 aircraft: 4 Cessna Caravans, 4 Britten Norman Islanders, a Piper Seneca, a Cessna 206 and a Cessna 172. This role requires a strong background in aviation maintenance with a focus on compliance with Federal Aviation Regulations (particularly part 135) and industry standards. Our ideal candidate has 10+ years experience as a licensed A&P working with piston and turbine engines, ideally in a part 135 environment, with experience on Caravan and/or Britten Norman airframes.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the maintenance team to ensure high-quality performance in aircraft and equipment maintenance.
- Develop and implement maintenance schedules and procedures to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Conduct root cause analysis for equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
- Conduct root cause analysis for maintenance errors, and implement corrective actions and system improvements.
- Oversee the use and maintenance of calibrated tools.
- Oversee and ensure procurement and adequate supplies of needed parts in a timely manner.
- Coordinate the maintenance of aircraft systems including avionics, airframe assembly, and sheet metal fabrication.
- Maintain records using digital systems to track maintenance activities.
- Participate in hiring, and provide structured training and mentorship to incoming and current staff on best practices in aircraft maintenance and repair.
